ShintTools

Comparison

ShintTools vs the rest of the gamedev AI ecosystem

GitHub Copilot, Cursor, JetBrains Rider AI and Unity Muse speed up writing code in the IDE. ShintTools lives inside the editor and automates assets, naming and QA. This is the honest version.

Bottom line

Use Copilot / Cursor / Rider AI when…

You want faster C++/C# writing in the IDE and your studio accepts sending source to a third party (or you're on an enterprise plan with opt-out).

Use ShintTools when…

You need to enforce project conventions across a team, validate assets and naming in CI, and you cannot — or will not — send proprietary code or assets outside your network.

FAQ

Does GitHub Copilot work with Unreal Engine?

Yes for C++ and headers inside Visual Studio or Rider. No for asset pipelines, naming, or anything inside the Unreal Editor itself. ShintTools runs inside the editor and inspects .uasset data.

Do Cursor or Rider AI cover what ShintTools does?

No. Cursor and Rider AI are IDE assistants: completion, refactor and chat over your code. Neither validates assets, enforces naming rules, nor runs deterministic automation in CI.

What about Unity Muse?

Unity Muse generates sprites, animations and textures inside Unity and answers questions over the docs. Useful for creative tasks. It does not replace asset validation, naming rules or CI integration.

Is ShintTools cheaper than an IDE assistant?

Yes, beyond a single seat. ShintTools Indie is €39/month for the entire studio (up to 5 seats). A 5-person team on Cursor Pro pays $100/month; on Copilot Business, $95/month.

Can I use both?

Yes — they solve different problems. Many of our partners use Copilot or Cursor for writing C++ and ShintTools for asset validation and project rules.
