Start with evidence
Capture Unreal Insights traces and platform profiles in representative scenes. Separate Game, Render, GPU, memory and streaming bottlenecks before optimizing.
Audit content budgets
Check texture pools, LOD transitions, Nanite clusters, material complexity, skeletal meshes, Niagara and audio against per-platform limits.
Review Blueprint cost
Find unnecessary Tick usage, expensive casts, repeated lookups and allocation-heavy paths. Move only proven hotspots to C++.
Prevent regressions
Store benchmark thresholds and run repeatable scenes in CI or nightly builds. Alert on deltas, not vague impressions of smoothness.
